Swimming and surfing figures, sea creatures and crashing waves feature often in Keith Haring's work. In 1987, Haring was commissioned to paint a mural for the Channel Surf Club in Knokke, Belgium. The artist famously covered the side of a large sea container on the beach with an epic ocean scene.
